# Billing

Prepaid credit, the rate card, and top-ups.

The API is prepaid. Each workspace has a credit balance. Metered calls debit it before the work runs. If the balance cannot cover a paid call, the API answers `402` until you top up. The first 5,000 resolve calls per workspace each calendar month are free and do not require a positive balance. There is no automatic monthly cash-credit grant.

Prices are per query, not per result. `maxResults` defaults to 10 and caps at 100.

## Reading charges [#reading-charges]

Every metered response carries `charge`:

Values are in micro-dollars: divide by 1,000,000 for USD. `GET /v1/account/balance` returns the same balance with the open credit lots and the rate card.

## Top-ups [#top-ups]

Buy credit in the console under **Billing**. Top-ups are $10 to $50,000, paid by card through Stripe, and earn a bonus at volume:

Purchased credit is valid for 12 months. Free credit is spent before purchased credit.

## Auto top-up [#auto-top-up]

Turn on auto top-up in **Billing** to charge your saved card when the balance drops below a threshold you pick. The API checks after each debit and tops up at most once every ten minutes.
