# Import by link or identifier

Save a web page, video, or paper without uploading a local file.

Import a link or paper identifier to keep the source in your library. Anara resolves available metadata and retrieves readable content when it can.

## Import a source [#import-a-source]

1. Open **Search**, or press Cmd+K on Mac or Ctrl+K on Windows.
2. Paste a web URL, YouTube URL, DOI, or PMID.
3. Choose the import action offered for that input.
4. Wait for processing, then check the new item in your library.

For a DOI, paste the identifier or its `https://doi.org/` link. For PubMed, a PubMed URL identifies the paper without ambiguity. You can also ask chat to find a paper and import the result after you review it.

## Full text and paywalls [#full-text-and-paywalls]

**Available** means readable content was extracted. **Abstract only** means Anara has the abstract but not the paper's body. **Content unavailable** means it could not obtain readable content.

Importing a DOI does not bypass a publisher's paywall. If you have institutional access, download the PDF yourself and [upload it](/guides/add-files). Confirm that the imported record matches the title, authors, and year you intended.

## Usage and failures [#usage-and-failures]

Imports draw on your [usage allowance or credits](/guides/usage-and-credits). A URL that requires a login, has expired, or points to a navigation page may fail to provide the source. Try a direct paper or PDF link, or upload a local copy. For spoken content, see [transcription](/guides/transcription).
