# Find academic literature

Discover papers, check matches, and build a source library.

Ask Anara to find papers by research question, title, author, or identifier. State the field, dates, and study types you need so it can choose useful searches.

## Search by topic [#search-by-topic]

```text title="Prompt"
Find empirical studies on this research question published since 2020. Give me the title, authors, year, study design, and why each paper is relevant. Separate reviews and preprints from primary studies.
```

Use **Web** as a source for external research. Connect a [science database](/guides/science-databases) when you need to name a particular database. You can combine external search with your own [library sources](/guides/sources).

## Find a known paper [#find-a-known-paper]

Provide its DOI or a complete title with author and year. Check the match before importing, especially for common titles or different editions. Use [import by link or identifier](/guides/import-by-url) to save a known source directly.

## Read before drawing conclusions [#read-before-drawing-conclusions]

Search results can contain bibliographic metadata and abstracts without the full paper. Ask Anara which sources it read in full. Open the cited papers and check whether the evidence supports the answer.

For connected work around a seed paper, use the [citation graph](/guides/citation-graph). For a structured review, record your search question, databases, dates, and criteria, then use [systematic reviews](/guides/systematic-reviews).
