# Apps and MCP servers

Connect curated apps or add a custom MCP endpoint as an Anara source.

Model Context Protocol (MCP) lets Anara use tools provided by another service. A connector can search or read that service and, when permitted, perform actions there.

This page covers sources inside Anara. To connect another AI tool to your Anara library, use [Anara over MCP](/guides/mcp).

## Curated apps [#curated-apps]

The catalog includes BioRender, Granola, Atlassian, Hugging Face, Notion, Airtable, PostHog, Zapier, Linear, Sentry, Intercom, Miro, ClickUp, Todoist, Stripe, and ElevenLabs. These curated connections require Plus or above. Provider subscriptions and permissions can impose additional requirements.

1. Open **Settings > Connectors** and find the app.
2. Click **Connect**.
3. Complete the provider's sign-in. If the dialog asks for a provider-specific server URL, use the instructions linked there.
4. Return to Anara and ask for a task using the connected app.

The provider determines which tools are available. A connection does not mean every action in that product is supported.

## Add a custom server [#add-a-custom-server]

Custom MCP servers require Pro or above.

1. In **Settings > Connectors**, choose **Add server**.
2. Paste the provider's HTTPS MCP endpoint.
3. Complete authentication when prompted.
4. Use **More options** only when the provider supplies a bearer token, custom headers, transport, or server name.
5. Confirm the connection and try a read request in chat.

Review requests that would change external data before allowing them. Keep access tokens private. MCP connectors are disabled in HIPAA-enabled workspaces.

## Troubleshooting [#troubleshooting]

Use the MCP endpoint, not the service's homepage. If authorization expires, reconnect. If no tools appear, verify that the endpoint exposes tools and that the connected account has permission to use them.
