# Anara over MCP

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, and other MCP clients to your Anara library.

Anara runs a remote MCP server. Once connected, your AI tool can search and read your library, run structured research over it, and ask Anara for cited answers without leaving the tool you already use.

The server URL is:

You sign in through your browser when you connect. There is no client ID or secret; leave those fields blank if a tool asks.

## Connect [#connect]

**Claude Code**

claude mcp add --transport http anara https://anara.com/api/mcp
```

Then run `/mcp`, select **anara**, and choose **Authenticate**.

**Codex**

```bash
codex mcp add anara --url https://anara.com/api/mcp
codex mcp login anara
```

**Claude desktop or web:** open **Settings > Connectors**, click **Add custom connector**, name it Anara, enter the URL, and click **Connect**.

**ChatGPT:** in a plan that supports custom MCP connectors, add a custom connector with the URL and sign in.

**Other clients:** any client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers with OAuth can use the same URL.

## Permissions [#permissions]

Connections are read-only by default. The consent screen offers optional write access, which lets the tool create notes, folders, and spreadsheets and edit notes and spreadsheets. Deleting, moving, and renaming library items is always blocked.

For headless tools that cannot open a browser, create an API key in Anara settings and send it as `Authorization: Bearer anara_...`. Give the key only the permissions it needs.

| `anara_run_code`        | Runs a short JavaScript program against the Anara SDK for searches, batch reads, and joins in one call |
| `anara_spawn_agent`     | Runs a full Anara agent turn for open-ended research; the result is saved as a chat in your workspace  |
| `anara_local_bootstrap` | Gives local coding agents a short-lived key so they can combine local files with your library          |

If tools look stale, reconnect the server or start a new chat in your client.
