# Transcribe audio and video

Import recordings and ask questions grounded in their transcripts.

Upload audio or video to make spoken content available for research. You can also import a YouTube URL.

## Add a recording [#add-a-recording]

1. Upload an MP3, M4A, WAV, or MP4 file, or [import a YouTube link](/guides/import-by-url).
2. Wait for processing and transcription.
3. Open the audio or video item.
4. Ask about the recording and follow its citations back to the relevant content.

```text title="Prompt"
Summarize this lecture's main arguments. For each one, give the supporting transcript passage and timestamp where available. Separate the speaker's claims from your interpretation.
```

## Review a transcript [#review-a-transcript]

Transcription can mishear names, numbers, abbreviations, and overlapping speech. Listen to the original segment before using an exact quotation or consequential detail. Tell the agent which term was misheard when asking a follow-up.

You can organize recordings into folders alongside papers, ask comparative questions, or use [Views](/guides/views) for consistent extraction across supported recordings.

## If processing fails [#if-processing-fails]

Check the [format and file limits](/guides/file-types), your connection, and available [usage](/guides/usage-and-credits). A private, unavailable, or restricted video URL may not be retrievable. Upload an authorized local recording when link import cannot access it.
