# Restore an earlier note version

Preview saved versions and restore the one you need.

Version history lets you inspect earlier saved versions of a note before restoring one.

1. Open the note.
2. Open its menu and choose **Version history**.
3. Select a saved version to preview it. The list shows when versions were saved and their authors where available.
4. Choose **Restore this version**, then confirm with **Restore**.

Previewing a version does not by itself replace the current note. Exit the preview to return to your current work. If you want a separate copy before restoring, duplicate or [export the note](/guides/export).

If the list says no versions have been saved yet, there is no earlier version to restore. If a version fails to load, retry before changing anything. Version history is part of the note menu, not a History tab beside the file.
