# Use Anara in Microsoft Word

Install the Word add-in and research, edit, and cite from your document.

Anara for Word opens a research pane beside your document. Use **Agent** to research and edit, and **Cite** to find and insert references. A free Anara account is enough to start; your plan controls usage and model access.

## Install inside Word [#install-inside-word]

1. Open a document in Word on Windows, Mac, or the web.
2. Open **Home > Add-ins > More Add-ins**. Some Word versions put the store under **Insert > Get Add-ins** or **File > Get Add-ins**.
3. Search the store for **Anara**.
4. Select **Anara for Word** and click **Add**.
5. Open Anara from the **Home** tab and sign in to your Anara account.

## Install from Microsoft AppSource [#install-from-microsoft-appsource]

Find **Anara for Word** in [Microsoft’s add-in marketplace](https://appsource.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps?search=anara\&product=office%3Bword), select **Get it now**, and follow the Microsoft account prompts to add it to Word. Open a document and launch Anara from **Home > Add-ins**.

## Research and write [#research-and-write]

Ask Agent a specific question about the open document, or ask it to research a topic using your Anara library and academic sources. Review proposed edits in the document. In **Cite**, search for a paper and insert the reference where you need it.

## If the button is missing [#if-the-button-is-missing]

Open **Home > Add-ins** and select Anara from your installed add-ins. If your work or school account blocks the store, ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to allow Anara for Word. For account or usage problems, see [troubleshooting](/guides/troubleshooting).
