How citations work
Every answer links back to the passage it came from, in the format you choose.
Anara cites every claim it makes. Citations are clickable footnotes: each one points to the exact passage, web page, or connector result the claim came from.
Check a citation
- A citation to a file in your library opens it in the viewer, scrolled to the passage.
- A citation to a web page or an academic database opens in your browser.
Checking two or three citations is the fastest way to confirm an answer says what the source says. If a file shows Abstract only or Content unavailable, the agent cannot cite its body text; see Add files.
Citation formats
Anara supports more than 12,000 citation formats. Numbered is the default. Search the format picker by style or journal name to find APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago, IEEE, Vancouver, or any other style.
Chat and the note editor have separate settings, so you can keep numbered citations in chat and use APA in your writing.
- Go to Settings > Preferences.
- Under Chat, set the citation format for answers.
- Under Editor, set the format for citations you insert in notes and exports.
The formatted citation in a file's Details tab follows your Chat setting.
Citations in your writing
In a note, highlight a claim and choose Search citation. Anara searches your library and the web by meaning rather than exact keywords, shows candidate sources you can preview, and inserts the one you pick. Inserted citations stay linked to the source and carry into Word, PDF, HTML, and LaTeX exports. See Write notes.
Reference lists
Ask the agent to format citations for documents in your library, or to export references as BibTeX. The Generate a reference list use case walks through it.
