Write notes

Draft in the note editor with your library, citations, and the agent alongside.

Notes are documents you write in Anara. They live in your library next to your sources, can be organized into folders, and keep citations linked to the passages they cite.

Create a note

  • Click Create in the left sidebar and choose Note.
  • Or ask the agent: "Create a note summarizing this paper."

The editor supports headings, lists, to-do lists, tables, block quotes, code blocks, links, and LaTeX math between $$ signs. Long notes stay fast.

Write with the agent

Open the Ask tab beside a note. The agent can see what you have written, so you can ask "What am I missing in this argument?" or "Draft a paragraph on sample size from my library." Turn off web search to keep drafting grounded in your sources.

Quick Edit: select a passage and describe the change, such as "make this more concise" or "expand this with detail from my library."

Review AI-drafted text before you submit it, and click citations to confirm they say what the sentence claims.

Add citations

  1. Highlight the claim that needs a source.
  2. Choose Search citation in the toolbar.
  3. Preview the candidates and click Insert.

The format follows Settings > Preferences > Editor > Citation format. See How citations work.

Version history

Every note saves versions automatically. Open the History tab to preview earlier versions and copy back anything you want, which is useful after a large AI rewrite.

Export

Open the note menu, choose Export, and pick Word, PDF, HTML, or LaTeX. Citations are included in every format, formatted by your Editor citation setting. Word is the easiest format for collaborators who do not use Anara. LaTeX exports may need their preamble and bibliography adjusted for your journal template.
